FORT BEND COUNTY — The family of the 66-year-old Sealy man killed in Monday’s crash on U.S. Highway 90 has identified him as Antonio Portillo.

Portillo was driving the Freightliner involved in the Sept. 1 crash near FM 1952. Texas DPS said he was pronounced dead at the scene.

His family later reached out to Wharton Post and asked us to share a GoFundMe created in his memory.

Fundraiser Created for Portillo Family

The fundraiser, titled “In Loving Memory of Our Beloved Father Antonio Portillo #79,” was organized by Maria Portillo Gurrola.

The family said the fundraiser was created after people began asking how they could help. They said donations and shares are both appreciated as the family deals with the unexpected loss.

The fundraiser also includes a photo of Portillo’s red Freightliner.

Crash Remains Under Investigation

DPS said Portillo’s 2007 Freightliner was traveling eastbound on U.S. 90 when a westbound 2025 Honda entered the eastbound lane for reasons still under investigation.

The two vehicles collided head-on.

The crash resulted in a second death after the 16-year-old driver of the Honda later died from her injuries Wednesday morning, according to DPS. A young passenger was also hospitalized.

DPS said the investigation remains ongoing.

Family Thanks Community for Support

Portillo’s family said they are thankful for the prayers, condolences and support they have received since the crash.

They asked Wharton Post to help share the fundraiser with those who had been asking how they could support the family.
