NEEDVILLE — The Needville community is stepping up to support three East Bernard brothers following the deaths of their parents in an August crash on State Highway 60.
A drive-through fundraiser benefiting Tyson Jenkins, 20; Gage Jenkins, 18; and Jake Jenkins, 16, will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, at Don Wenzel Memorial Harvest Park, 3001 Violet St. in Needville.
Their parents, Jeremy and Brandy Jenkins, were killed in a single-vehicle rollover crash on Aug. 15. Jeremy served as East Bernard ISD’s athletic director and head football coach, while Brandy taught at East Bernard Junior High School.
Tyson is a college student, and Gage and Jake attend East Bernard High School.
Needville Shows Its Support
Communities and school districts across the region have rallied around the Jenkins brothers and East Bernard ISD.
Students and staff at several districts, including Needville ISD, wore maroon following the couple’s deaths in recognition of East Bernard’s school colors. Needville Blue Jay football players also placed maroon “EB” decals on their helmets as a visible show of support.
“Our neighbors in East Bernard are hurting, and if we can help these three wonderful young men in some way, then we certainly should,” organizer Chris Janicek said.
Fundraiser Details
The Sept. 23 fundraiser will offer chicken-fried steak meals catered by Vincek’s Smokehouse. Each $15 plate will include rice and gravy, green beans and bread.
Meals will be available through the drive-through pavilion at Harvest Park. Drivers should turn onto Poppy Drive and then Youth Fair Drive before entering the pavilion from the east side.
Plates cannot be purchased in advance. Organizers currently plan to accept cash and checks, although another payment option may be added before the event.
The fundraiser is scheduled to continue until 7 p.m., but organizers said it may end early if all plates are sold.
Donations will also be accepted, and 100% of the proceeds will be given to the Jenkins brothers.
