WHARTON — Scouting America Troop 117 has launched a new community flag program aimed at bringing more American flag displays to Wharton during patriotic holidays.
The local troop is calling the effort the Wharton Pride Program.
Kristen Jones of Wharton Scouting America Troop 117 contacted Wharton Post about the program following the troop’s recent Labor Day display.
“We are bringing American Patriotism to Wharton,” Jones said.
Labor Day display at Wharton church
For Labor Day, Troop 117 placed a display of American flags at First United Methodist Church in Wharton.
The church is located at 1717 Pioneer Ave., with the building facing Old Boling Highway, according to the church’s website.
Jones described the Labor Day setup as a “wonderful display of our flags” and encouraged the community to see it before troop members returned Tuesday evening to collect the flags following the holiday.
The display offered Wharton residents an early look at the troop’s new flag program, with multiple American flags placed on the church property for the Labor Day observance.
Labor Day fell on Monday, Sept. 7, this year, and the flags remained on display into the following day before they were scheduled to be picked up.
Veterans Day is next
Troop 117 is now turning its attention toward Veterans Day on Nov. 11.
Jones said the troop was updating information about the program following Labor Day to reflect Veterans Day as its next patriotic observance.
The Wharton Pride Program gives local Scouts another opportunity to participate in community service while also providing visible displays recognizing national holidays.
Jones said Troop 117 includes both male and female members.
Troop 117 operates under Scouting America, the organization formerly known as the Boy Scouts of America. The national organization officially adopted the Scouting America name in 2025.
Scouting America programs emphasize leadership, character development, service and outdoor activities for young people.
Troop 117 maintains a local website where residents can find additional information about the Wharton troop and its activities.

With the Labor Day display completed, the Wharton Pride Program is expected to return as the troop prepares to recognize Veterans Day in November.
