WHARTON — Wharton ISD has confirmed that a recent incident involving alcohol being passed among students at Wharton Junior High School remains under investigation.

The district said the incident occurred Monday, Sept. 21, 2026.

According to a statement sent to parents and guardians, campus administrators were alerted that alcohol was being passed among students on the junior high campus. The district said administrators temporarily secured the campus, searched classrooms and worked to identify and address the students involved.

Normal instruction resumed after the campus was determined to be secure.

Wharton Post initially contacted Wharton ISD Public Relations Coordinator Nicole Snow seeking additional information about the incident, including how many students were involved, whether any students consumed alcohol or required medical attention, and whether law enforcement was involved.

Snow initially told Wharton Post that the statement had been released to Wharton Junior High parents and that there was “no public comment at this time.”

Wharton Post then submitted a Texas Public Information Act request seeking records connected to the incident.

In response to that request Wednesday, Snow provided the statement issued to parents and confirmed the date of the incident. She also said the matter remains under investigation.

“Since this incident occurred on Monday, September 21, 2026, the matter is still being investigated and further records are not available at this time,” Snow wrote.

She added that the district would follow up with additional records permitted for release if they become available.

The statement to parents did not disclose how many students were involved, what type or quantity of alcohol was involved, whether students consumed the alcohol, or whether anyone required medical attention.

Wharton ISD told families that bringing, possessing, consuming or distributing alcohol on school property is not permitted and encouraged parents and guardians to speak with their children about making safe and responsible choices at school.

Wharton Post will continue seeking additional public records related to the incident and will provide updates as more information becomes available.
