BAY CITY, Texas — A nearly year-long investigation into fentanyl trafficking in Bay City and Matagorda County resulted in the seizure of more than 1 kilogram of fentanyl pills and the arrest of a Bay City man, according to the Bay City Police Department.

Authorities said a search warrant was executed on May 26 at a residence in the 2200 block of Belegarde Drive in Bay City. The operation involved the Bay City Police Department, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the U.S. Postal Inspection Service (USPIS), and the Matagorda County Sheriff’s Office.

During the search, investigators recovered a package containing approximately 1.075 kilograms (2.4 pounds) of fentanyl pills, which officials estimate amounted to nearly 8,000 pills. Police estimated the street value of the narcotics at approximately $350,000.

According to authorities, Brandon Brinkley, 39, of Bay City, was taken into custody at the residence. Investigators said he was found in a bedroom with the package and a loaded firearm nearby.

Police said the seizure prevented a significant quantity of fentanyl from reaching the community. The investigation remains ongoing, and no additional information has been released.
