AUSTIN — Governor Greg Abbott and the Texas Veterans Commission announced Tuesday that $40.8 million in Fund for Veterans’ Assistance (FVA) grants will be awarded to support veterans and their families across Texas.
According to the governor’s office, the funding will be distributed through 190 grants awarded to 160 nonprofit organizations and local government agencies that provide direct services to veterans, surviving spouses, and their families. The grants are expected to benefit more than 125,000 veterans and family members statewide.

Governor Abbott said the funding will help strengthen programs that serve Texans who have served in the military.
“Texas is proud to provide crucial services to support the brave men and women who selflessly served our nation in uniform,” Abbott said in a statement.
The Texas Veterans Commission said the grants will support a wide range of services, including housing assistance, financial aid, legal services, clinical counseling, employment programs, and other resources designed to help veterans transition and thrive in civilian life.
Funding for the program comes primarily from Texas Lottery games designated for veteran support, along with donations made through vehicle registrations, hunting and fishing licenses, handgun carry licenses, and driver’s licenses.
Since the program began in 2009, Texas has awarded more than $400 million through nearly 1,800 grants to organizations serving veterans across the state.
State officials said the latest round of grants reflects Texas’ continued investment in services that support veterans and their families in communities throughout the state.
