WHARTON COUNTY — A Houston man was killed in a workplace accident on May 27 while working on a damaged power pole in Wharton County.

Christopher Villa, 23, was working in the 6000 block of Whispering Oak when he became pinned between a falling piece of heavy machinery and the bed of a pickup truck, according to Wharton County Sheriff Shannon Srubar.

Villa worked for Frontline Power Construction Company of Rosharon and had been repairing a customer’s damaged power pole that had caused a power outage in the area.

Deputies and Wharton EMS were dispatched to the scene around 12:20 p.m. Villa was later pronounced dead at the scene by Wharton County Justice of the Peace Precinct 1 Judge Jared Cullar.

Srubar said no foul play is suspected, but the investigation remains open.

It was not immediately known if an autopsy would be ordered.

Villa is survived by his wife and two children.
