EL CAMPO — Wharton County homeowners still recovering from storms and other disasters in 2024 can learn about available state assistance during an outreach event Saturday in El Campo.
The Texas General Land Office will hold the event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, at the Northside Education Center, 707 Fahrenthold St.
GLO representatives will be available to provide information about programs that may help eligible homeowners repair or rebuild their homes or receive reimbursement for storm-related expenses.
The assistance is intended for primary residences damaged during severe weather in 2024, including straight-line winds, tornadoes and Hurricane Beryl.
Wharton County is one of 27 Texas counties included in the assistance programs. Other eligible counties include nearby Brazoria, Fort Bend and Matagorda counties.

Homeowners may apply for either reimbursement assistance or repair and reconstruction assistance, but not both. Applications must include the required supporting documents and will be reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis.
Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham said GLO housing programs have helped more than 14,000 Texas families rebuild their homes. She encouraged homeowners still struggling with storm damage to learn more about the programs and apply.
Residents can apply online at recovery.texas.gov/apply. Potential applicants are encouraged to review the document checklists before submitting an application.
Anyone needing assistance may email cdr@recovery.texas.gov or call 1-844-893-8937.
