WHARTON COUNTY — H-E-B employees in Wharton and El Campo spent Sept. 11 showing appreciation for local first responders, delivering food, supplies and other donations to departments serving the community.
In Wharton, employees from the local H-E-B visited the Wharton Police Department as part of the company’s Helping Heroes effort.
Police said employees brought food, snacks and other items while recognizing officers for their service. The department thanked the Wharton H-E-B team, noting that the store supports local officers throughout the year and not only on Sept. 11.
Wharton firefighters were also recognized by the local H-E-B team. The Wharton Volunteer Fire Department thanked the store for its continued support and specifically recognized H-E-B employees Lori, Mari, Destiny and Jaime for thinking of the department. Photos shared by the department show firefighters and H-E-B employees with food, snacks and Helping Heroes gift bags.
In El Campo, H-E-B employees also recognized police, EMS and fire personnel.
According to a social media post from employees involved in the effort, the El Campo store provided departments with items including kitchen supplies, office supplies, snacks, candy for Trunk or Treat activities and bottled water for firefighters.
The outreach coincided with the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, while giving employees an opportunity to recognize first responders serving their own communities.
H-E-B’s Helping Heroes initiative brings employees together with first responders in communities across Texas around Sept. 11, providing assistance and showing appreciation for police officers, firefighters, EMS personnel and others who respond during emergencies.
The Wharton and El Campo visits were among the local efforts recognizing those who serve Wharton County throughout the year.
