HUNTSVILLE — Texas has executed the second man convicted in the 2005 shooting deaths of three people in Edna, bringing to a close the death sentences handed down in the Jackson County triple murder.
Ker’Sean Olajuwa Ramey, 41, was executed by lethal injection Wednesday evening and pronounced dead at 6:34 p.m. His co-defendant, LeJames Norman, was executed last week for the same killings.
The case dates back to Aug. 24, 2005, when Ramey and Norman went to a residence in Edna during what court records described as an attempted robbery involving cocaine.
Three people were killed: Celso Lopez, 38; Tiffani Peacock, 18; and Samuel “Sam” Roberts, 24. According to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, all three victims were fatally shot in the head with a .22-caliber handgun.
Lopez was inside the residence when Ramey and Norman entered. Peacock and Roberts arrived later and were also killed before the two men fled, according to court records.
Conviction and Death Sentence
Ramey was 20 years old when the killings occurred and was convicted of capital murder in 2007.
Witnesses testified during his trial that Ramey had admitted involvement in the killings. His girlfriend also helped investigators recover two guns connected to the murders, according to court records and reporting on the case.
Norman later testified against Ramey during the trial.
Texas prison records show Ramey entered death row on Jan. 31, 2007, at age 21. He had no previous prison record listed by TDCJ.
Final Appeals Rejected
Ramey’s attorneys continued challenging his conviction and death sentence ahead of Wednesday’s execution.
In an emergency filing with the U.S. Supreme Court, his attorneys argued that Black prospective jurors had been improperly excluded during jury selection and that Ramey received ineffective assistance from his trial attorney, particularly during the punishment phase of his trial.
The filing also raised claims involving allegedly false evidence presented during the case and the performance of Ramey’s attorneys.
On Wednesday, the U.S. Supreme Court denied Ramey’s request for a stay of execution and denied his petition for review, allowing the execution to proceed.
Executed One Week After Co-Defendant
Ramey’s execution came approximately one week after Norman was put to death for his role in the same murders.
The two executions mean both men sentenced to death for the killings of Lopez, Peacock and Roberts have now been executed, more than 21 years after the murders occurred.
Ramey became the sixth person executed in Texas in 2026, according to The Texas Tribune.
Ramey’s Final Statement
Before his execution, Ramey spoke about his faith, his family and the relationships he developed with other prisoners while spending nearly two decades on death row.
He thanked those who supported him during his incarceration and spoke about the other men on death row who had become an important part of his life.
The case originated in Edna, the Jackson County seat southwest of Wharton County, making it a notable capital murder case from the surrounding region.
