WHARTON — A local effort to honor veterans through Wreaths Across America is seeking sponsors and volunteers ahead of its Dec. 19 ceremony at the Wharton County Veterans Memorial.
According to the Wharton County Veterans Memorial campaign page, 238 wreaths have been sponsored toward an 800-wreath goal, leaving 562 to reach full coverage. The online count may change as sponsorships are received.
The ceremony is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, at the memorial at South Houston and West Burleson streets in Wharton. Wreath placement will follow immediately.
Participants will place remembrance wreaths on veterans’ graves and say each veteran’s name aloud during the observance.
Sarah Hudgins and Daisey Delgado are listed as local coordinators. Supporting groups include American Legion Post 87 and BSA Troop 785.
Residents interested in helping can sponsor a wreath or register to volunteer using the buttons on the local campaign page. Organizers encourage volunteers to register to receive event updates.
People of all ages and backgrounds are welcome. Volunteers should follow coordinators’ placement instructions, and those interested in helping with cleanup can check with organizers.
