WHARTON COUNTY — Two men were killed Monday evening after two tractor-trailers collided head-on on State Highway 60 near County Road 205 in Wharton County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The crash occurred at approximately 7:24 p.m. Monday.

According to the preliminary DPS investigation, a 2025 Freightliner truck tractor traveling southbound on Highway 60 crossed the center line and collided head-on with a 1997 Peterbilt truck tractor traveling northbound.

The driver and passenger of the Peterbilt were pronounced dead at the scene.

DPS identified the victims as Anthony Michael Escobar, 32, of Bellville, and Juan Dedios Garcia, 49, of Bellville.

The driver of the Freightliner, Michael Nolasco, 27, of Houston, suffered serious injuries and was flown by PHI Air Medical to Memorial Hermann Hospital in downtown Houston for treatment.

The crash remains under investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Monday’s collision marks the second fatal crash on Highway 60 in Wharton County within a week. Just days earlier, two East Bernard residents were killed in a separate collision north of Hungerford involving a passenger vehicle and a semi-truck. Between the two crashes, four people have lost their lives on Highway 60 in less than seven days.
