EAST BERNARD — An East Bernard woman has been ordered to pay $174,700 in restitution after pleading guilty in connection with a February home invasion that ended with a house being destroyed by fire.

According to court records, 22-year-old Rylie Claire Bean entered a guilty plea during July proceedings in the 23rd District Court.

As part of the sentence, Bean received credit for the 139 days she had already served in the Wharton County Jail. She was also ordered to undergo a drug and alcohol evaluation, complete treatment if recommended, and perform 400 hours of community service.

If she successfully completes the terms of her sentence, the conviction will not be held against her.

The case stems from an incident that occurred around 2 a.m. on Feb. 21 in the 500 block of Koym Street in East Bernard.

Authorities said Bean allegedly forced her way into a home by breaking through a glass door, injuring herself in the process. The homeowner, who reportedly did not know Bean, left the residence and called for help after she refused to leave.

Shortly after the homeowner escaped, flames were seen coming from the house. By the time East Bernard volunteer firefighters arrived, the residence was fully engulfed in fire.

According to the Wharton County Sheriff’s Office, Bean was located later that night and investigators determined she was intoxicated at the time of her arrest.

The home, a wood-frame residence built in 1948, was considered an 80% fire loss.

Bean was originally arrested on charges of arson and burglary of a habitation. As part of the court’s judgment, she was ordered to pay $174,700 in restitution for the damages caused.
