EL MATON — A youth football game between the Needville Lil Jays and Tidehaven Tigers has led to public statements and disciplinary action after videos and photographs of an apparent confrontation involving adults circulated on social media.
The incident occurred in connection with Saturday’s game, Sept. 19, at Taska Stadium in El Maton.
Both organizations issued statements Sunday, Sept. 20, addressing the incident and condemning the behavior. Tidehaven Youth Football & Cheer reported that one individual had been removed from an organization, while the status of a second person remained pending.
Neither organization publicly identified the individuals involved.
What Happened at the Game?
The incident gained attention after videos and photographs circulated on Facebook showing an apparent confrontation involving adults.
A social media post alleged that a coach associated with Needville yelled at a child and made an obscene gesture toward him. The post also alleged that a woman made a similar gesture toward spectators.
One photograph shared in connection with the incident shows a woman on the field appearing to raise her middle finger.
The images and allegations prompted discussion among community members on social media.
However, the full sequence of events leading up to the confrontation has not been independently established.
Neither organization has released a detailed account of what occurred before the incident.
Tidehaven Confirms Disciplinary Action
On Sunday, Tidehaven Youth Football & Cheer released a statement addressing the incident and the attention it had received.
The organization described behavior displayed by members of the coaching staff as unacceptable and inappropriate in a youth sports environment.
Tidehaven emphasized its commitment to providing a safe and respectful environment for players, families, coaches and volunteers.
The organization reported that one individual had been removed from an organization, while the status of another person remained pending.
Tidehaven did not identify either individual or specify which organization removed the first person.
The organization also confirmed that both leagues had been communicating about the incident and were taking steps to address the situation.
Needville Youth Football Issues Public Apology
The Needville Youth Football League issued its own statement Sunday, signed by league President Roland Soliz.
Needville described the situation as involving several parents following the game.
Soliz apologized to the opposing organization, its players, coaches, families and fans, along with Needville’s own players and supporters.
He described the behavior as unacceptable and said it did not represent the values of the Needville Youth Football League.
Needville said it was taking the matter seriously and addressing it immediately.
The league did not identify the individuals involved or provide details about specific disciplinary measures.
The two organizations used different descriptions of those involved. Tidehaven referred to members of the coaching staff, while Needville described several parents.
It remains unclear whether those descriptions refer to the same individuals.
Organizations Address Public Reaction
Tidehaven also addressed the public response following the circulation of the photographs and videos.
The organization asked people to stop sharing, tagging or contacting the opposing team’s school district, employers and other organizations associated with those involved.
Tidehaven emphasized that the actions of two individuals should not be used to judge an entire organization, school or community.
Needville expressed a similar position in its statement, saying the actions of a few individuals did not define its league or community.
Both organizations said they were addressing the incident and emphasized the importance of maintaining a positive environment for young athletes.
South Coast Youth Football Association
Needville and Tidehaven are both members of the South Coast Youth Football Association , which welcomed the two organizations for the 2026 season.
The association’s role in reviewing the incident has not been confirmed.
It is also unclear whether any additional disciplinary action will be taken at the association level.

Despite statements from both organizations, several questions remain.
