JACKSON COUNTY — Two Houston men have been arrested and charged in connection with the death of a man whose body was found in the Lavaca River south of Edna.
At approximately 5:30 p.m. on May 2, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a deceased person in the river along County Road 311 near Malone Bridge. The victim was later identified as David Sanchez of Houston.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office began investigating the death with assistance from the Texas Rangers and Texas Game Wardens.
Following a two-month investigation, authorities arrested two men on July 18 in connection with Sanchez’s death.
Age 20 — Houston, Texas
Eric Hernandez, 20, of Houston, was charged with murder. His bond was set at $500,000.
Age 19 — Houston, Texas
Maynor Jasiel George-George, 19, of Houston, was charged with murder and abuse of a corpse. No bond was granted on the murder charge, while bond on the abuse-of-a-corpse charge was set at $50,000.
Both men remained in the Jackson County Jail at the time of the sheriff’s office announcement.
The sheriff’s office said investigators devoted numerous hours to following leads, conducting interviews and processing evidence during the investigation.
The Texas Rangers, U.S. Marshals and the Texas Department of Public Safety’s Criminal Investigations Division in Houston assisted with the investigation and arrests.
The sheriff’s office has not released further information about the circumstances surrounding Sanchez’s death or the alleged roles of the two defendants.
The charges are allegations. Both defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
